UPDATE, finally!!!

Hello everybody!!!

I’m so sorry for not posting on here the past couple of months. Things have been pretty hectic since the shows in Pleasanton and with the holidays we are all losing our minds πŸ˜‰

So… The Pleasanton dog shows went off without a hitch, for the most part. It was great seeing everybody who came and cheered Nancy and Shelby on, and I was so happy to see all of the Diablo dogs!!! The show was okay, but not the best weekend regarding winning. Bentley (Keisha x Joker) pretty much brought it home all weekend, and won his class 4 out of 5 shows. Everybody else received a class placement or walked out with nothing 😦 The last day of the show, was awful. We decided to not show any of the champions in Best of Breed because the judge was so crappy during the dog and bitch classes.

After that we were off to Dixon, where Sevita won a couple points. The Sunday of the Dixon shows, Nancy and I picked up Joker and began our trip to Topeka, Kansas for the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of The United States annual specialty. We had five dogs (Joker, Rugby, Seamus, Penny and Lausanne) in one minivan, along with a ton of luggage (mostly dog junk). It was a 30 hour drive according to map quest, but we managed to complete it in 25 hours. We drove from Dixon to Laramie, Wyoming the first day. The second day we drove from Laramie to Topeka. When we arrived in Topeka we agreed that if we ever have to drive more than ten hours, we will fly instead. The drive was BORING. After California, it was basically flat until Utah and Colorado. Wyoming and Kansas really sucked.

Anyways… Once we were checked in to the hotel in Topeka, we attended the usual events: welcome reception, top 25, and the annual meeting. Everything was boring except the top 25.

Results: Rugby placed third in the 12-18 month sweepstakes class, I think he won $35 πŸ™‚ Penny won the largest class at the show, the open bitch class (35 other girls in her class)! This is a HUGE deal for Penny, as well as Nancy and myself!! Penny then competed in the winners bitch competition and got nothing 😦 Joker’s handler, Val, won winners bitch with her 12-18 month girl from Kimani, and the bred by exhibitor girl won reserve. Even though she didn’t end up with any points, it was still a wonderful win for Penny. In the best of breed competition, Joker won an award of merit. Rugby and Seamus made the first cut, but no ribbons. Lausanne made the first and second cut, but no ribbon either. All in all, Penny’s gigantic class win made the trip worthwhile for me. we are so proud of Penny and all of her accomplishments so far. She needs 5 points to earn her championship, including a major. She will finish in her own time, and we have become the team to beat!

The drive home from Topeka was quite the haul. Penny ended up with a really sour stomach, and we had to make a pit stop in Aurora, Colorado to get some meds from a vet. Once we were on the road again, we only managed to make it to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Luckily, it was daylights savings the next day, so we woke up early, and got on the road just in time to pass a massive blizzard. We were on Interstate 80 when it began to snow, and the road headed east was being shut down. We have to drive through snow for a few hours, but once we made it to Utah, all was well. We made it home from Cheyenne in one day, we had dropped off Rugby and were in at Diablo HQ by 9:00 pm. Record time again πŸ˜‰

Now about the Napa shows and the Turkey circuit- Joker won the breed every day at the Turkey Circuit, and continues to secure his spot as the #1 RR in the country. Sevita won a point, Lausanne won some ribbons, and that was it.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!! FYI Nancy has her second (and much worse) rotator cuff repair/reconstruction surgery on December 17th. We will need to keep the visiting dogs to a minimum since she will be in a sling again for another six weeks after that.

Sorry it’s taken me so long to update you, but we have been on a dog show grind. Nancy and I leave early monday morning for the AKC Eukanuba show in Orlando, Florida, and we will be back next Sunday. I will try to post results as soon as possible.

Pleasanton dog show: October 19th

All of you who own a Diablo and JusticeRidge RR should have received an email regarding celebrating Shelby’s show retirement. We are asking you to be at the show at 8:00 am to cheer on Shelby for her final laps around the show ring. Shelby was the winner of the first Bay Area Rhodesian Ridgeback Club Specialty in 2003. This year will be a big deal since she is still willing to show, ten years later. We will have cake, cupcakes, and champagne for those of you who attend.

Another subject I want to tell you all about is our friend, Steve Moore. He is a professional photographer from the east coast. This past summer he worked on a project, “The Dog Days Of Summer”, photographing a different breed of dog, everyday, throughout the US. He recently came to Pleasanton, and photographed the dogs at the house. Steve has a custom built natural light studio trailer that he will be bringing to the Pleasanton dog shows. He has a black backdrop, and is willing to do studio sessions for the Diablo and JusticeRidge dogs that are interested. Please check out his website and contact him to arrange a session: http://thebreedproject.com/

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone!!

New house!

Ok everybody… I have finally moved out of the ghetto, and into a real house, with a real yard. Lots of room for dogs and puppies, and the best open floor plan. I will post more photos soon. If you’re interested in coming to our housewarming party in November, please let me know!
